A six-day localized ceasefire covering the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky and nearby areas in Ukraine’s Kherson region expired late on November 1 without an extension, according to Al Jazeera’s report. The arrangement was limited in geography and humanitarian scope: it enabled a joint evacuation operation in which nearly 800 people left Oleshky, while residents were also offered the option of moving to Ukrainian- or Russian-controlled territory or remaining with replenished food and medical supplies.
The ceasefire ended at 10:59 p.m. Ukrainian time, or 20:59 GMT. Al Jazeera reported no violations in the covered area during the six-day pause, but said a Ukrainian official alleged that Russia rejected Kyiv’s proposal to extend it. Ukraine’s military separately said it evacuated 167 civilians from threatened areas of the wider Kherson region, including 22 children and 21 people with limited mobility. The report establishes that the truce was confined to Oleshky and surrounding areas; it does not provide a comprehensive account of fighting across the wider Kherson region.
In reports issued around the end of the truce, Al Jazeera reported that Ukraine’s Air Force said users had received fabricated warnings of nuclear and chemical threats, street combat and a Russian missile deployment on the country’s air-raid alert application. The report says the Ukrainian announcement came earlier on Sunday evening local time, but does not establish when the underlying cyber incident occurred relative to the ceasefire’s expiry. Russia’s Emergencies Ministry also said its warning app had suffered a “massive cyberattack” that spread false information, without identifying the perpetrator.
Taken together, the reports establish a temporary, localized humanitarian arrangement in Oleshky rather than a wider ceasefire. They also document alleged interference with public-warning systems in both countries around the same period, but do not establish who carried out either incident or whether the incidents were connected to the Kherson truce.
