Iran has rejected the U.S. response to its proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying Washington must explicitly accept Tehran’s seven conditions before the waterway can reopen. The statement came as President Donald Trump confirmed that U.S. forces had struck an Iranian anti-aircraft facility near the strait.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tuesday that the American response was “not convincing” and that Washington must address Iran’s demands and act on them. Iran’s proposal would reopen the waterway over two days if the United States lifted sanctions and ended its naval blockade, according to Al Jazeera’s report on the latest exchange.
Qatar, which is facilitating the indirect U.S.-Iran contacts, said the talks were continuing and that both sides remained committed to the negotiating process. The latest Iranian position therefore represents a demand for further U.S. action, not an announced suspension of negotiations, Al Jazeera reports.
Trump told Fox News that the U.S. operation targeted an anti-aircraft facility that Iran had built over about two months. He called it a “minor attack” and said it “wasn’t war.” Iranian media reported that explosions struck Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz. Before Trump’s confirmation, Al Jazeera reported that U.S. officials characterized the action as defensive and said Iranian surface-to-air missile systems targeting U.S. assets were involved, according to the earlier account.
The evidence establishes a confirmed U.S. strike and a new Iranian statement rejecting Washington’s response, but not a settled change in the status of the waterway. Iran’s conditions remain proposals rather than adopted terms, and neither source establishes that the strait has reopened. Commercial shipping also remains exposed: the latest report says the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency recorded two projectiles striking a tanker’s engine room near Oman, without reported casualties. Separate Iranian claims about other tanker incidents and vessel seizures could not be independently verified.
